In her paintings in gouache on paper, Janet Gorzegno invents for contemplation glimpses of the human. The human head in profile recurs throughout Gorzegno's work as a symbol for conscious awareness, memory and the space of dreams. Gorzegno exhibits her work nationally and internationally in juried and invitational shows. Her current gallery affiliation is Bowery Gallery in New York City.
Janet Gorzegno's keen interest in ancient and sacred art traditions has led her to pursue the practical study of Icon writing, Persian miniature painting, Indian miniature painting and Thanka painting. She is also studies artistic applications of sacred geometry.
Gorzegno has been a fellow at several artist residencies, such as the Byrdcliffe Art Colony, Moulin à Nef in Auvillar, France, the Heliker-LaHotan Foundation, the Ragdale Foundation, The Hambidge Center for Arts & Sciences, the Millay Colony for the Arts, International Workshops in Assisi, Italy, and most recently the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
Gorzegno teaches drawing and painting as a professor of art for The University of Southern MS. She studied studio art at Drew University and the New York Studio School. She received her MFA in Painting from Yale University.
